Franco Albini
Nel 1949 si apre il cantiere per la costruzione dell’albergo-rifugio per ragazzi di Cervinia, commissionato dall’amico alpinista Giuseppe Pirovano a Franco Albini. L’edificio – che nel 1946 avrebbe dovuto essere una casa con annessa scuola di sci – viene ultimato nel 1952 ed è firmato in collaborazione con Luigi Colombini.
L’albergo-rifugio, un unicum all’interno della produzione di Albini, costituisce un’eloquente dimostrazione del modo in cui l’architetto brianzolo intende il rapporto con la tradizione, la storia e il paesaggio attraverso una ripresa delle tecniche costruttive locali del rascard. Albini riesce a trasfigurare materiali e tecniche spogliandole di ogni sentimentalismo pittoresco, elevando la lingua vernacolare attraverso una loro reinterpretazione di memoria classica – la colonna gigante, i capitelli in pietra, la serialità degli elementi modulari.

Construction system:
Stone and concrete masonry, respectively for the part above ground and for the partially buried part; stone pillars on the front towards the valley. The third floor and the attic are built with the traditional system of the “rascard” in larch boards.
