Tra gli interventi di potenziamento delle infrastrutture ferroviarie lo Stato francese
\ncommissiona nel 1879 con una procedura allora inusuale per le opere pubbliche, la
\nlicitazione diretta, il progetto di un grande viadotto che colleghi i centri di Marvejols e
\nNeussargues, superando l\u2019ampia vallata del fiume Truy\u00e8re ad un\u2019altezza in quota di 122m,
\n\u201cpour donner une id\u00e9e de cette hauter [\u2026], il nous souffira de dire qu\u2019elle d\u00e9passe
\nnotablement celle des tours de Notre Dame du Paris, et de la colonne Vend\u00f4me
\nsuperpos\u00e9es\u201d (Viaduc de Garraby: le plus gigantesque travail du monde, Paris, Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Orsay, fond Eiffel). L\u2019appaltatore proposto e incaricato dagli ingegneri Bauby e Boyer per
\nl\u2019impresa colossale di un tratto di rotabile lungo 564m \u00e8 la Eiffel et Cie. gi\u00e0 nota per aver
\ncostruito un\u2019opera di simile tecnologia a Porto, sul fiume Douro, pur essendo pi\u00f9 breve di
\ncirca 200 m. Ma il poco tempo che separa i due manufatti pi\u00f9 famosi di Eiffel, datati 1875 e
\n1879, sono anni di grandi cambiamenti sia nella Compagnia sia, in maniera pi\u00f9 rilevante,
\nnelle metodologie di calcolo grafico. Cos\u00ec il Garabit rimane ancora oggi uno degli esempi pi\u00f9
