Reinforced concrete floor slab resting on the ground.<br \/>\nFloor above ground: metal structure, hollow quadrangular pillars, composed of two L-shaped elements (6\u201d-8\u201d) and solid slabs (8\u201d+7\/16\u201d), in Lally columns on the ground and second floor. Beams continuous double-T beams (24\u201d-1-8).<br \/>\nCeiling: joists resting on the main beams, composed the assembly of two double-T beams and L-shaped elements, on which rests a reinforced concrete slab. Structure clad with light-coloured terracotta elements, use of solid mat-solid materials for the infill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nel 1914 Louis Henry Sullivan progetta l&#8217;edificio della Home Building Association a Newark, Ohio, su un piccolo lotto di circa 22&#215;60 piedi. L&#8217;amministratore della Home Building Association a Newark, Emmett Baugher, influenzato dai progetti per gli edifici bancari di Sullivan a Owatonna (Minnesota) e Cedar Rapids (Iowa), convince la compagnia ad affidare il nuovo progetto a Sullivan. Dopo aver accettato l&#8217;incarico, Sullivan presenta i costi e i disegni di progetto alla compagnia nel giugno 1914, completando l&#8217;edificio nell&#8217;agosto 1915. L&#8217;edificio ha una struttura mista, con pilastri e travi in acciaio e spesse murature in laterizio. Sullivan dedica particolare attenzione al rivestimento esterno, impiegando piastrelle in terracotta e inserendo mosaici nei prospetti principali. \u00c8 la prima volta che Sullivan usa i mosaici su una banca (nel progetto per la banca di Owatonna li aveva usati solo per una fascia stretta che delineava la decorazione esterna).<\/p>\n<p>Nel prospetto sud possiamo notare la presenza di un leone con uno scudo in terracotta che simboleggia la sicurezza dell&#8217;istituto bancario. Nello stesso prospetto sono presenti due sottili colonne che rappresentano due tronchi di giovani alberi emergenti dal suolo. In questo modo Sullivan \u00e8 riuscito a rappresentare la cultura manifatturiera della comunit\u00e0 e le esigenze della banca.
