Il grandioso padiglione in ferro e vetro era stato progettato dall\u2019architetto francese Ferdinand Dutert in occasione dell\u2019Esposizione Universale di Parigi del 1889 e, insieme alla <em>Tour Eiffel<\/em>, era stato il simbolo e la principale attrazione dell\u2019expo parigina.
